this was me rebelling today against the constant 'jeans + jumper + jacket' outfits, that for the last couple of weeks seem like the only thing warm enough in the freezing cold. it was like the weather gods heard me, because much to my delight, it was actually quite sunny and warm today - i even took my jacket off part-way through the day! hoorah!ps. how awesome are dresses with pockets?
pps. i don't like that my boots have gone all scrunchy. anyone got any magical fixes?both dresses from cotton on : sheers from coles : socks from forever new : boots by sportsgirl : jacket from tightrope

when it comes to fashion, i (as well as many others i'm sure), seem to go through very distinct phases aside from the usual 'trends'. for quite a while now i have really shifted from the idea of 'basic black' to 'basic grey'. i love grey! in all shades, and my love for it doesn't seem to be waning anytime soon.
in terms of 'trends' i really love the idea of clashing patterns especially head to toe floral, but as i'm such a minimalist at heart i just can't bring myself to do it! so instead i have been experimenting with mixing black/white/grey patterns, and i have to say, i really love the outcome.
to that end here are a couple of outfits from about a week ago. the first is what i wore for most of the day, but i had to go out after dark and it was rather cold! so i kept the shoes and the jumper and the basic concept and the second outfit was the result!
outfit one : dress from valleygirl : jumper from cotton on : tights from dotti : various bits of jewellery mostly from diva : shoes from ebay
outfit two : jacket from country road : vest from jeans west : jeans from dotti : black shirt from somewhere that i can't remember

ever since reading this article i have been really inspired by the idea of wearing a single colour. i would love to try it one day with grey (a la rebecca turbow) (ps, i love that she sounds slightly ocd in this interview - i can so relate), its a huge commitment though and i'm not sure i would be able to part with my current clothes and/or be disciplined enough to stay away from, say, a gorgeous plum dress or (heaven forbid!) some fierce, black studded number. mind you, karim rashid (gotta love karim!) does do it with two colours, so maybe i could do it with three? but is that cheating? thoughts?
for those of you who have checked back - i'm so sorry for the lack of updates recently. i'm a bad blogger! and i realise this is a terrible thing to do when i'm trying to build a reader base, so don't give up, i'll be back soon xox
so i promise this blog will get more interesting than outfit posts soon! as for today, i took inspiration from all of the sheer fabrics floating around the catwalks recently, a la preen (taken from style.com):and also the amazing geometric shape of these belts from fleet ilya, that susie bubble featured yesterday:
ps - i finally got a haircut, hoorah!
pink dress from cotton on : overdress by givenshy (not a typo, one of those horrendous fakes - i bought it at at tiny store owned by a lovely chinese couple : vintage scarf as belt : shoes from ebay

new shoes and a new check shirt - i absolutely love the colours in this shirt, i'm not sure why, it's so granny-ish (mind you, i've always had a bit of an affinity for granny style).
sorry i look so cranky in these photos - i'm not feeling very well today. i promise i'm not really this grumpy!
ps - i haven't mentioned it before but you can click on the images for a larger view
jacket from tightrope : vintage check shirt : grey singlet under from cotton on : bettina liano jeans : shoes are some random brand bought from ebay
i'm at my parents house in the country for a couple of days, so this outfit isn't particularly interesting (i just brought clothes that would be warm - it's cold here!) but i do have new shoes, which is always cause for celebration! you can't quite see it in the photos but they have this awesome chunky piece of leather around the ankle - i love them!i love being here, it's so peaceful. i went on a bit of a photographic exploration this morning, these photos look so cliché australian; my parents' property is full of granite, wattle, gum trees and even the occasional kangaroo!
