happy halloween kids!

i have always loved dress up parties, though halloween is not a major thing here is aus, so i have never done anything special for it. this year i was invited to a halloween party for the first time ever, but unfortunately i cannot go! it has a wizard of oz theme and everything - i'm a bit bummed. i would have gone as 'glenda, the good witch'. so unfortunately, still no halloween dress ups for me this year. so in order to save this from being the most uninteresting post ever, i thought i might show you one of my favourite costumes i have worn. it was an alice in wonderland themed 21st party for a very dear friend of mine. see if you can guess what i am :)

apologies for the terrible/rushed photoshop job - i still have assessment to go do, bleh. i love love love this wig - i might even don it today and take a couple photos for you lovelies! the dress i made myself and the faux hookah is actually a candle-stick with some rubber tubing and a cigarette holder attached to the end. i actually ordered a real hookah from ebay, but it didn't come in time :( the wig also came from ebay.

alice and i sitting on a giant mushroom that alice's boyfriend made (!!! it was amazing!)

edit: i meant to ask! are any of you dressing up for halloween? i want to see! show me photos!... please? :)

the answer to life, the universe and everything. post number 42.

hi lovelies, just dropping in to say i promise i will be back soon. i have one last uni assessment which is due exactly a week from today and then i am free (woo hoo!) i may or may not sleep for a week after that point.

in my break i'm hoping to do lots and lots of diy projects. unfortunately i don't get much time to do it during the uni semester but i have been collecting pictures of things that have inspired me/things i want to make, so that is probably what will keep you entertained for the next couple months. i really love sewing and painting and it's a shame that i just don't get much time to do it normally, so i usually throw myself headlong into it when i have some holidays time. this break may be slightly different however because i'm hoping to get a job (a real one as an actual designer!!!) but at least my weekends will be my own - which, if any of you have studied design will know, is a rare occurence!
there is also a back-log of things that i have been wanting to post and just haven't yet... soon!

so here are some images that i have been collecting and that you may just see here in the near future. watch this space!

plus one i have already done for a good friends wedding a little over a week back - evidence coming soon...

amber&thomas

i've just laid eyes on some of the most beautiful swimwear i've seen in a while and *hoorah* it's australian! amber&thomas are based out of melbourne and have designed a line that is simplictically classic and i think i'm in love! unfortunately, the online store isn't up yet, but you can sign up to get an email alert when it is. they also have, what looks like a pretty awesome blog (they also blogged about the city slipper, haha). if you like design you should check it out, and go get your hot bodies into some amber&thomas for summer :)

i'm disturbed to realise that people have found my blog by google-ing 'boobs'. do people actually do that? fire up google and type 'boobs'?

we're doomed.

city slipper

i have just come across the strangest concept, and i'm a little floored as to whether i like it or not. in theory it's horrendous, but.... they don't look all that bad. do they?

when i saw these first two images, my first thought went straight to the pierre hardy neoprene shoes that susie bubble blogged about a couple of days ago and i thought, 'oh yeah, they're kinda cool'. then i realised they're actually heel gumboots (wellingtons/galoshes depending on where you live) which is, uh... weird. and i'm not sure what i think of them now.

here's some fun facts about the 'city slipper' made by 'swims':

- they have extra traction for slippery surfaces
- the sole of each CitySlipper has the map of either new york, paris or tokyo
- pull on/off grip and the soft siliconpad on the sides makes it very convenient
- flexible design to fit almost any heel height and thickness due to flexible material and construction

the swims website also has these beauties (sarcasm) which they have attempted to sex up, but i think i will have to give them a big fat fail there, these ones ain't pretty.

and never fear - the men don't miss out... uh... ugh.

mauve-y mauve-y mauve

just a quick outfit post from yesterday. i love this skirt, there are so many possibilities to the way you can wear it, and it is the most beautiful shade of mauve. here's a few more examples of how it can be worn:

unfortunately, it's not mine. it belongs to my flatmate, but i've never seen her wear it so i'm thinking i can claim it as my own (hehehe *evil laugh*).

i'm in the middle of a hair colour crisis at the moment but hopefully i can fix it. i've been dying my hair for a lot of years, i used to really enjoy the creativeness of it, so i mostly know what i'm doing, but i don't enjoy it anymore. after this last episode i've decided i'm never dying my own hair again!

high tea and a hat

today we had a high tea hen's party for a very dear friend of mine and she asked us all to wear a hat of our choosing, so i made a flapper-inspired fascinator. it was quite a lot of fun! this is what i wore:

and for the close up:

edit: i meant to show you this too. our host had bought fortune cookies and every single one said the same thing, it was quite hilarious and we think the fortune cookie gods think we are bitches and need to change our ways, haha, probably.

the shoes and jacket dilemma

digital cameras are often quite a useful tool in deciding on what to wear. last night the boy and i went out to dinner and i was having trouble deciding on a jacket/shoe combination. this is what i started with:
but it was quite cold, so i was worried that the jacket wouldn't be warm enough (it's just a thin cotton-y thing) so i put on this jacket (oh, and also different shoes):

but i didn't like that either because the jacket was too short, and i haven't gotten around to fixing my too-big-long-length-smoking-blazer, so i thought maybe i could try a different shirt in the same colour:

but both the boy and i decided the silk tunic was the better looking option. so i decided that since we would be inside most of the time i would just brave it and i would wear the oringinal jacket, but with my black melissa's. ta-da!:

final outfit! *phew* i quite like the combination of the texture and shinyness of the leather against the sheerness and sheen of the silk. and guess what? i wasn't cold a bit!

what about you, lovelies? do you ever use this technique to get dressed? which jacket/shoe combination do you like best?

ps, sorry about the cord... i was too lazy to move it :)

boobs, tattoos and mickey mouse (consider this your warning!)

i'm back and i missed you all dearly! so this is me today, not very exciting i know, i have just been running around doing errands today. sorry about the bandage, i'm ok i promise, just a minor thing at the doctor's yesterday.

so, i have been lazy and haven't followed up the post regarding this image (uncensored this time) yet:

so here it is:

i've been tattooed! this is something i've been thinking about doing for a long time, and i finally worked up the courage to do it! i'm from scottish heritage and the text is my scottish clan's slogan in gaelic meaning 'royal is my race'. i love it! (and yes, it hurt quite a lot).

just for the record, i didn't get it in the same place as erin on purpose it just happens that she had one where i wanted mine! she has some beautiful tattoos, i love the element of surprise with tattoos - something that can't be seen all the time, but you get a glimpse of every now and again. this will definately be the first of quite a few more i imagine!
